AboutI began playing piano at the age of ten by teaching myself to read notes from a beginner music book. I studied with Karen Schlaubaugh at Bethel College, where I received a Bachelor of Music in Piano. Along with traditional classical studies, I played in the school's jazz ensembles and combos, various original rock/pop and experimental jazz groups, was a highly sought-after accompanist, and was active in numerous recording projects. Taking a semester off to travel in Costa Rica, I then gave music and piano lessons to various Spanish-speaking students, and created and taught multi-lingual group guitar lessons for The Monteverde Friends School. In addition to giving lessons to fellow college students, children, and adults throughout college, I held a position as staff accompanist for First United Methodist Church. I try to bring an intense love-of-music to teaching and playing, and am committed to making music approachable for anyone who has the desire to learn. I seek to keep student's interest growing by drawing from a range of experience in various styles and disciplines, without being stale or repetitive. I currently work as staff accompanist for Asbury United Methodist Church, play for rehearsals at Ballet Austin, am working on a new solo album, and play as a jazz big-band pianist for the Vintage15. When I am not teaching or playing piano, I enjoy playing guitar, recording music at home, running, dabbling in photography, or playing with my dog, Samantha, at Town Lake. |
